1. Feeding your Newborn

  • Understanding hunger cues – Crying isn’t the first sign of hunger. Look for rooting, hand-sucking, or restlessness – these are early cues that your baby’s ready to feed.
  • How often should you feed? – Newborns usually feed every 2–3 hours. Whether breastfeeding or formula feeding, the goal is enough wet diapers and slow weight gain.
  • Burping & Spit-Ups – Burping your baby after every feed helps prevent discomfort. Gentle upright holding works best. A little spit-up is normal – don’t worry unless it’s excessive.

2. Sleep & Soothing Basics

  • How Much Sleep Do They Need? – Newborns sleep 14–17 hours a day – just not in one go! Day and night may feel blurred at first, but routines will come.
  • Safe Sleep Practices – Always place baby on their back to sleep. Keep the crib clear, no pillows, toys, or heavy blankets.
  • Soothing Techniques – Swaddling, white noise, skin-to-skin contact, or gentle rocking can help your baby feel secure and settle faster.

3. Diapering & Bathing

  • How often to change Diapers? – Every 2–3 hours or when wet/soiled. Look for signs like a heavy diaper or colour change in the wetness indicator.
  • Preventing Diaper Rash –  Keep the area clean and dry. Use gentle wipes and let the skin breathe before putting on a new diaper. Diaper-free time helps!
  • Bathing Your Baby – A sponge bath is enough for the first few weeks. Use lukewarm water, a soft cloth, and keep the baby warm and wrapped between wipes.

4. Bonding & Development

  • Eye Contact & Voice Recognition – Newborns can see about 8–12 inches away – just enough to focus on your face. Talk, sing, and smile often. Your baby knows your voice from the womb!
  • Tummy Time –  Start with a few minutes a day to strengthen neck muscles. Always supervise tummy time and turn it into a playful bonding moment.
  • Trust your instincts – No one knows your baby like you do. It’s okay to ask for advice, but it’s also okay to follow your gut. You’re doing better than you think.
